OverView

As a plant enthusiast with a packed schedule, I noticed a personal pain point — the lack of a dedicated plant delivery mobile app. Inspired by my own needs and broader market trends in direct-to-door services, I created iPlant: a mobile app that brings greenery into users’ homes, without the need to visit a nursery. This project focused on building platform-specific experiences for iOS and Android, while keeping consistency in core functionality, accessibility, and ease of use. It allowed me to explore how visual systems shift based on device standards (HIG vs. Material Design).

The Challenge

One of the key challenges with the iPlant project was creating an engaging digital experience that captured the essence of plant care without overwhelming users with information. The app needed to be intuitive for beginners yet functional enough for seasoned plant enthusiasts. Balancing educational content with simple user interactions required thoughtful UI choices. Another challenge was developing a visual style that conveyed calmness and nature while still feeling modern and fresh. Additionally, we needed to address onboarding friction—how to educate users about the app's features without creating barriers to entry.

The Solution

To overcome these challenges, I focused on designing a user flow that mirrored the real-life journey of plant ownership—from selecting a plant to maintaining it over time. I simplified the interface using soft, nature-inspired color palettes and minimalistic icons to create a welcoming feel. Key features were broken into digestible steps, with micro-interactions and illustrations that guide users through each function of the app. I also introduced a quick-scan feature that allows users to instantly identify plant types and access care tips, streamlining the overall experience. The final design emphasized ease-of-use while subtly educating users through visual storytelling and intuitive navigation.

The Result

Delivered a fully mapped-out cross-platform app concept with wireframes and mid-fi prototypes. Showcased flexibility in working with two design systems. Demonstrated strong grasp of UX principles, visual hierarchy, and mobile-first thinking. This case study continues to serve as a practical example of product strategy, visual design, and problem-solving.n engaging digital platform, solidifying their position as a premium cosmetic serum provider.
